Exercise Pitch Black 2012
Exercise Pitch Black 12 (PB12) is the Royal Australian Air Force’s (RAAF) largest and most complex air exercise. It was held in Australia’s Northern Territory from 27 July to 17 August 2012.

One of the most significant aspects of 2012's Pitch Black was the first ever employment of Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar at the exercise. One of the new types carrying the AESA were the RAAF Super Hornets. Here A44-224 carries a travel pod on one of its portside pylons.
